“AIMAFF 2026 Brings Athens Together for Cinema”
The lights dimmed at Newman Cinema on March 29th, but what followed was anything but quiet. AIMAFF 2026 unfolded as a vivid celebration of independent cinema, drawing in over 215 film lovers for an evening dedicated to storytelling in its most daring and diverse forms.
The program showcased the top 12 films of the past year, each one offering a distinct lens on the world. From intimate character studies to bold, experimental narratives, the selection reflected the very essence of what AIMAFF stands for: originality, courage, and the power of independent filmmaking.
By the end of the evening, two films emerged as standouts. The Jury Award for Best Film of the Year was presented to Stefano Meomartino for Good Night, a work that clearly resonated with the festival’s curatorial vision. Meanwhile, the Audience Award driven by over 200 live votes was claimed by Minh Tai Nguyen for Where the Lights Fall. The film’s raw portrayal of two young men chasing a future in music, only to confront the weight of reality, struck a powerful chord with viewers. Its honesty and emotional clarity left a lasting impression, sparking conversation long after the credits rolled.
AIMAFF 2026 was also marked by the presence of filmmakers whose work enriched the evening. Sean Nam presented Echoes, while Tamara Stofkova introduced her debut The Harvest, adding a personal dimension to the screenings and reinforcing the festival’s commitment to connecting creators with audiences.
