Interview with multiartist Ginita Sunaina

Welcome Ginita we are very excited to have you today with us to discuss about your work.

First off, Who is Ginita Sunaina and how did the passion for filmmaking start ?

First of all, thank you for this interview. It’s an honor to do this interview.

I, Ginita Sunaina am a Dutch-Indian actress, model, producer, writer-director and music artist born and brought up in the Netherlands.
My passion for movies and entertainment started at a very young age; I started acting and singing at the age of four and from there growing up, I started writing my own poems and lyrics, painting etc…
I must say, I always had an obsession with old Bollywood movies and songs, my parents were blown away that I knew all the old movies and sung all types of songs.

My interest in music and film making was put on hold while I pursued an entirely different career. After I graduated, I pursued my dreams and went to India where I started my Bollywood career.

Can you tell us about your previous work ?
I have acted in Bollywood movies such as, Munna Michael and War, have featured in commercials of brands like, KFC, Vogue Bff, Ikea, Motorola and Jio.
With names like Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan etc.
I did several National and international fashion and entertainment shows. Featured on cover magazines like Mari Saheli.

In 2020 just before the lockdown, I launched my first official song and music video; Y.O.L.O. (You only live once), which has been released on Zee Music.
After that (in Lockdown) I made two more songs and music videos, Tu Quieres Bailar Remix & Chadti Jaaye and started writing on my own script Conficted; which I also produced and directed myself.

With God’s grace I have won several Awards such as Best Actress, Best Producer, Best Short Film and Best Director with my new short film ‘’ Conficted ‘’ and own film production house Global Tara Entertainment.

CONVERSATION ABOUT: CONFICTED

What inspired you to create the film "Conficted"? Is there a personal connection to the story?

Life. Life inspired me. COVID-19 / lockdown happened and as an actress I do observe a lot, being grown up in a multicultural country and then to start working in Asia.
I wanted to create a story which would make your mind's imagination run around, but at the same time I needed it to be a story with a message.
Today’s problems can still be a taboo to others and others may seem to get the wrong message from the same. This story is all about showing the equal rights of all people around the world and having respect for their choices.

As the writer, actor, and producer of "Conficted," how did you balance these roles? Any specific challenges or highlights?

Good question, haha. My first challenge started while writing the story, as it was in lockdown I was stuck in India far away from my family and I went to an office and started writing there in my notebook, in which a person came and tried to stop me saying; You are an actress, tried singing also which is my field from generations long and now you trying to write? Are you a failure or what? This conversation was a so-called “challenge”. Apart from that I feel my passion for films and entertainment helps me somehow in finding the overall balance between producing and acting.

Being of Dutch-Indian origin, how does your cultural background influence your creative work, especially in a film like "Conficted" ?

Born in a country which has a lot of values towards human rights, The Netherlands, which is also a very multicultural country. Growing up you come to know a lot of people from different cultures and I have always been very observant. Said that, I think the love for my Indian roots has a lot to do with my creative work in a film like “Conficted”.

The film seems to carry a powerful message. Can you elaborate on the themes or messages you aimed to convey through "Conficted"?

One important message I aim to convey to the audience upon leaving the screening of “Conficted” is the importance of remembering and honoring the equal rights of choices of humanity. Suicidal numbers are way too high!
I really hope “Conficted” can have an impact on individuals over generations and make the world a little less judgmental.

The plot takes unexpected turns. Without giving away spoilers, can you discuss the creative decisions behind these twists and how they contribute to the overall message of the film?

I always wanted to create a film that takes a massive 180-degree unexpected turn, you know; in which the audience starts imagining the outcome of the film but it’s no where near the imaginations, which will make the audience more excited about the moral of the story.
The creative mind can see a lot of things differently but at the end the film is made for the audience and we all need to understand the overall message.

Can you share with us how your journey in the music industry began? Who are your musical influences, and how have they shaped your style?

My passion for music started when I was very young, at the age of four I already started to sing and perform (this obviously without any professional training at that age). I've listened to all  old Bollywood songs when I was just a small girl and grew up surrounded by music.
As I grew older I already started writing poems and my own lyrics while being exposed to all different kinds of music genres and styles of the world.
This helped me shape a bit of my own style, which I do call different, you will hear it when you listen to my released songs.
In 2020 I released my first song Y.O.L.O. Which has been released by zee music and after that I made a few more songs; Chadti Jaaye, Tu quieres bailar remix, Tu quieres Bailar and now my upcoming release Chikna Munda which I all produced and directed myself.

Looking back at your journey in both music and filmmaking, what is the most valuable lesson you've learned, and what advice would you offer to aspiring artists and filmmakers who are on a similar path?

The most valuable lesson that I’ve learned in my journey till date, is that you always have to keep believing in your dreams, keep pushing forward, don’t let nobody discourage you on any of your set goals and you will accomplish anything in life.

“Conficted” being the excellent example. As being asked if I was a failure when I started it, while this project till date gave me more than 18 awards already Globally.

Let’s not “convict” and learn to love!
