Haunted. Heartfelt. Hooked: Ghosted MD

In Ghosted MD, the inventive pilot episode from Emmy-winning director Jarett Bellucci and written with a deft touch by Nafsika Antypas (who also stars), the scalpel of medical drama meets the cold breath of the supernatural in a genre-bending cocktail equal parts Grey’s Anatomy and The Sixth Sense — with a splash of True Romance thrown in for good measure.

At its heart (no pun intended), the story follows Dr. Anastasia Dimas, a steely cardiologist who, in the midst of saving lives, finds herself tethered to one she couldn’t save — that of Jason Walker, a handsome stranger now turned spectral companion. What unfolds from this unlikely pairing is a tale thick with intrigue, emotional resonance, and more twists than a coronary artery.

The script is sharp and witty, never losing its pulse as it dances between humor, heartbreak, and high-stakes suspense. Antypas brings warmth and humanity to Stacey, grounding the fantastical premise in raw emotion. Opposite her, Jarred Harper’s Jason is a ghost with both charm and unfinished business, adding tension and bittersweet chemistry to their spectral courtship.

Visually, the pilot seduces with rich, atmospheric interiors and well-chosen New York locations that oscillate between the grit of back-alley crime scenes and the eerie glow of haunted mansions. However, the cinematography occasionally stumbles in exterior shots. And while the score seeks to heighten the tension, some music cues feel mismatched — a technical hiccup that momentarily pulls the viewer from the story’s otherwise well-crafted spell.

But these are quibbles in an otherwise compelling debut. The production design, makeup, and lighting sing, giving Ghosted MD a moody, cinematic texture. The casting is spot-on, from the leads to the colorful supporting players populating this ghostly noir.

What truly elevates Ghosted MD, though, is its potential. Bellucci's direction shows an appetite for storytelling that could afford to be even braver — one senses that the playful script is begging for more daring visual risks and bolder stylistic choices.
